Hints for HW 8
General Advice:
The mathematical skills you need for this problem set include algebra
and performing linear regression.
On the physics side, you need to understand the relation between pressure and
force.
Hints on specific problems:
- Problem 8-36: Be sure to read 8-35 first and understand what a
recoilless process is (if you don't understand, seek help). Note how amazing it
is to be able to measure such incredibly small shifts in frequency. Be
sure to answer part e with a short (1-2 sentence) answer.
divide delta f by f.
- Problem 8-41: Lot's of thought here. A good problem for science
fiction buffs interested in travel to stars.
- Problem 3-25 You need to know how to fit data points
to a straight line (called linear regression).
