Hints for HW 9
General Advice:
The mathematical skills you need for this problem set include algebra
and trig sum formulas.
On the physics side, you need to understand energy, Coulomb's law,
relation between momentum and wavelength of a wave.
Hints on specific problems:
- Problem 1-13: For part a, it is critical that you draw a figure
before doing anything else. Be sure your motion is all taking place along
a one-dimensional line, and note the closest approach to the nucleus.
Think about energy, especially kinetic energy.
- Problem 4-73: Compare kinetic energy to the potential energy and make a conclusion about what happens.
